After a breezy start to 2025, where they secured four back-to-back wins in cup competitions, Barcelona have once again hit a roadblock in La Liga.

The Catalans recently dropped points against Getafe, drawing 1-1, in a game where the team simply failed to take full advantage of the chances created.

Thanks to this result, Barça have won just one of their last eight matches – a stretch of poor run that has helped both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid take the lead in the race for the league title.

Worst run in 50 years

As a matter of fact, Barcelona have only accumulated six points out of a possible 24 during this stretch.

The last time Barcelona experienced such a prolonged period of struggle was during the 1974-75 season when they also managed to secure the same number of points.

Many Barcelona fans would feel unfortunate as the team has actually showcased impressive football and a fearless attitude.

However, they have simply failed to become efficient when it comes to making use of opportunities.

The match against Getafe was a microcosm of their season’s plight. After taking an early lead Barça couldn’t maintain their momentum, as they eventually conceded an equaliser in the 34th minute.

Despite creating numerous chances throughout the game, the second goal never really came. This was something Hansi Flick highlighted in the post-match presser, arguing that a second goal would have been enough to seal the victory.

As the season progresses, with 18 matches left to play, the challenge for Flick and his squad is clear: rediscover the efficiency which made the team during the early parts of the campaign.
