Barcelona: Good news for Ter Stegen

Marc-André ter Stegen, the 33-year-old German goalkeeper, is already back in individual training in Barcelona after his July surgery for recurring back pain.

His recovery is progressing exceptionally well, defying initial expectations that he would be sidelined until the end of the year or even longer. Ter Stegen is eager to reclaim his number one spot at Barcelona, but the club signed Joan Garcia this summer. As a result, a January departure cannot be ruled out, with reported contacts notably with Besiktas and other clubs.

His contract with Barça runs until 2028. Julian Nagelsmann, the German national team coach, considers him a contender for the starting spot at the 2026 World Cup—provided he gets regular playing time in the second half of the season.
