Barcelona may have been presented with an unexpected opportunity in the transfer market after Jan Virgili’s release clause has officially dropped significantly following Mallorca’s relegation.
According to SPORT, the Catalan club continue to keep a close eye on the progress of the young attacker, whose development has also attracted interest from several teams across Europe.
However, Barcelona remain in a privileged position thanks to clauses inserted during his departure last summer.
The club not only retained a percentage of a future sale but also secured preferential rights over any potential move, placing them in a strong position should they decide to act.
The Jan Virgili Barcelona story has gathered momentum in recent days, especially after Deco met with the player’s representatives, a move that reinforced the club’s interest in bringing back one of their former academy prospects.
It must be remembered that Barcelona currently hold 40% of a future transfer fee and also possess a right of first refusal, giving them a clear advantage over rival clubs pursuing the winger.

The biggest development, however, concerns the player’s release clause.
Jan Virgili’s contract included a provision that would reduce his valuation if Mallorca were relegated from La Liga.
With that scenario now confirmed, his buyout clause has fallen from €30 million to €12 million, making the numbers more attractive for Barcelona.
Taking into account the percentage they still own from a future sale, the actual amount required to complete a Jan Virgili transfer would stand at just over €7 million.
The new clause officially came into effect on 1 July, opening the door for interested clubs to accelerate negotiations.

The Barcelona transfer news surrounding Jan Virgili is also linked to the club’s overall squad planning for next season.
There is understood to be a positive relationship between both parties, but no definitive decision has been taken at this stage.
The Blaugrana hierarchy are still waiting for several departures to materialise before committing resources elsewhere, while Hansi Flick is expected to have the final say regarding the player’s future.
The German coach will likely assess the squad during pre-season before determining whether Virgili is capable of earning a place in the senior setup.
Another possibility being discussed internally involves a loan spell, allowing the youngster to continue his development while remaining connected to Barcelona’s long-term project.
