Barcelona are not taking any chances when it comes to Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez, the 17-year-old midfielder who made an instant impact during the early stages of the club’s 2025-26 pre-season.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the club has personally assured his agent, Ivan de la Pena, that there is a long-term plan in place for the teenager, provided he continues to develop and perform.

Dro has already begun turning heads with his brief yet memorable debut against Vissel Kobe, where he scored a stunning goal from outside the box in just 11 minutes on the pitch.

After these events, Barcelona’s technical staff now see him as one of the most exciting prospects of the upcoming season.

New contract, first-team role and Flick’s support

If Dro maintains this level, Barcelona are prepared to offer him a new contract with improved financial terms and extend it by an additional two years.

The intention is to show the player and his camp that the club sees him as part of their future.

In fact, there are already plans to alternate him between the first team and Barça Atletic this season. With Hansi Flick known for trusting and developing young players, Dro’s pathway to more minutes looks promising.

However, with talent comes attention. Dro’s strong performances have already attracted interest from other clubs. The challenge for Barça will be to convince him to stay committed to their plan, even if that means temporarily playing in the Second RFEF.

Fortunately, his agent De la Pena is known for making thoughtful career decisions rather than chasing money. With Deco also involved in outlining Dro’s progression, the young midfielder seems to be in good hands.

Barcelona are determined not to repeat past mistakes with emerging talent. The future looks bright for Dro, but only if he chooses to walk the path the club has carefully set for him.
