Barcelona have been following 24-year-old Newcastle United midfielder since quite some time – Report | OneFootball

Midfield is one of the most well-covered areas in this FC Barcelona team, as there are several players available to Hansi Flick for all the roles in the middle of the pitch.

However, the Catalans continue to keep an eye on the players who can further strengthen this part of their squad going forward.

In this regard, SPORT reports that one of the players that the Blaugranes are keeping their eyes on for quite some time now is the Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is impressing with his performances at the Premier League side Newcastle United.

Barcelona are monitoring the 24-year-old Italian playmaker through one of their scouts, Andrea Mancini and his reports on the player so far have been very good. However, despite their interest in the midfielder going back five years, the Catalans have not yet made any formal offer for him.

The Magpies had bought Tonali for around £55 million and one blemish on his career was his suspension for around 10 months because of his involvement in a betting scandal. However, he is now a regular starter for Eddie Howe.

The Blaugranes have been following the midfielder for quite some time now, and the President of Brescia, Massimo Cellino, revealed in 2020 a big offer that Barcelona had made for Tonali.

While naming several other clubs from across Europe, Cellino revealed that “Barcelona had made an offer of 65 million euros plus two very interesting youngsters valued at seven and a half each.”

Regarding his playing style, Tonali tends to play deeper in the midfield, with a lot of freedom for building up the game after taking the ball from the defenders.

He shines particularly with his technicality, positioning, and discipline, while his vision and ability to find his teammates behind the defensive lines also make him a highly important player in the build-up phase.
