Barcelona icon advises club to re-sign Marcus Rashford | OneFootball

Earlier this week, Barcelona officially lost their chance to trigger their buy option for Marcus Rashford, which was valued at €30m. As a result, it looks very unlikely that a return to the Spotify Camp Nou is on the cards for the Manchester United man, especially considering the Catalans have already signed compatriot Anthony Gordon.

However, it’s not impossible that Rashford will end up back at the Spotify Camp Nou. Hansi Flick still has a place for him in his squad, but it depends on whether Man United would be prepared to accept a reduced amount – and at this stage, they are not.

In the meantime, former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has had his say on whether Rashford could, and should, return to the Spotify Camp Nou. Speaking on DAZN (via MD) after the 28-year-old scored in England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in their 2026 World Cup opener, he made it clear that the Catalans would be smart to pursue another deal with Man United.

“It would be very good for Barça to continue with Rashford… let’s see.”

Rashford still prioritising Barcelona return – for now

As for Rashford himself, he has long made it clear that he wants to stay at Barcelona on a permanent basis. His hopes were somewhat dashed when the buy option expired, but for now, he is still holding out for a return to the La Liga champions later in the season, as per MD.

However, the report also notes that Rashford is no longer only considering Barcelona. He is prepared to accept another offer if it is one that he is happy with, meaning that sporting director Deco is running out of time to reach another agreement with Man United.

It certainly looks like Barcelona’s chances of re-signing Rashford are fading fast, but there is still plenty of time for things to play out.
