FC Barcelona have seen Robert Lewandowski lead the line for the past three seasons, and he is now in his fourth year at the club. However, the Pole is 37 years old, and this might be his final season in Blaugrana.

Lewandowski showed, very recently against Valencia, that he is far from done at the highest level. He looked razor sharp in front of the goal with incredible finishes after coming off the bench, but all good things do come to an end.

According to Fichajes, Barcelona have earmarked Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy as a potential replacement for the Polish number nine. The 29-year-old has been very prolific in front of goal.

Guirassy is expected to command a significant fee if Barcelona decides to sign him next summer. He is in the prime years of his career and would offer the perfect blend of experience and a few years at the top level.

Given Barcelona’s financial situation, going down the Lewandowski route might be the best ploy for the club. If they look at someone like Harry Kane, who is getting on in age, he could replicate what the Pole has done for three to four seasons.

In all fairness, the Catalan club has been very lucky with Lewandowski’s longevity. The Pole’s fitness levels are incredible, and it is remarkable that he is able to continue to compete at the highest level at 37.

At the right price, though, Guirassy would be a good replacement. He is more than just a goalscorer and has done well for Dortmund. The next few months should provide clarity on what the future of the number nine position holds for Barcelona, and let us wait and see how things play out.
