Barcelona identify another La Liga star as Julián Alvarez backup plan | OneFootball

The brass at Barcelona have earmarked another La Liga frontman as an alternative to first-choice attacking target Julián Alvarez this summer.

The player in question? Mikel Oyarzabal.

It is of course common knowledge at this point that Barcelona are on the lookout for reinforcements up top with a view to the 2026/27 campaign.

Following the departure of Robert Lewandowski, the Blaugrana are widely understood to have set their sights firmly on the aforementioned Julián Alvarez.

Atlético Madrid, however, have time and time again made it known publicly that their star goalscorer is simply not for sale.

Deco and co. have therefore been forced to draw up a backup plan. And as alluded to above, this week, the name of the leading name on Barca’s list of alternatives has been revealed.

The info comes courtesy of Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV, who report that:

‘Barcelona are already working on signing (Mikel) Oyarzabal (from Real Sociedad).’

Versatile attacker Oyarzabal is for his part fresh off a starring performance in Spain’s colours at the World Cup, giving rise to a Man of the Match award following a 4-0 drubbing of Saudi Arabia.
