The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have highlighted yet another name, amid their ongoing search for midfield reinforcements.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Wendel as the player in question.

It is of course common knowledge across the world of football that Deco and the Barcelona board have placed the addition of a new deep-lying midfielder towards the very top of the club’s priority list for the summer window.

The Catalans are yet to account for the loss of Sergio Busquets last summer, with the cut-price signing of Oriol Romeu having not worked out as planned.

A whole host of names from across the continent, in turn, have been tipped to take their talents to Catalunya’s capital with a view to next season.

And, as alluded to above, this week, yet another has made his way onto the radar of the Blaugrana brass.

As per a report from Diario Sport, amid frustration with the valuations placed on their more high-profile targets:

‘Barça have set their sights on Wendel, a 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder who is playing for Zenit St. Petersburg.’

Zenit, it is understood, are seeking a fee in the region of €20 million to part with Wendel, one which Barcelona consider altogether more accessible.

It now remains to be seen whether or not Deco and co. ultimately decide to move ahead with an opening offer for the former Fluminense talent.
