Barcelona in talks to sign highly-rated second-division left-back

FC Barcelona seem to be focused on strengthening their attack with the highest priority this summer. This is quite clear from the fact that they have already signed one of the most exciting forwards from the Premier League, Anthony Gordon, and are now also ready to make a big offer to land their favorite candidate to replace Robert Lewandowski, Julian Alvarez.

However, the Catalans have also not forgotten about the defense, and for this area of their team, there expected to be some changes on the left flank in particular. They are currently in negotiations with Al-Hilal for Joao Cancelo, while the future of Alejandro Balde remains subject to some uncertainty.

In such a context, a report from SPORT cites FM Arco Cantabria to claim that Barcelona have identified a young fullback from the second division to reinforce their left-back position, i.e., Jorge Salinas, who currently plays for Racing Club. In fact, the operation to land him can be completed before the end of June, as the two clubs are currently negotiating a transfer, and might already have reached an agreement.

Racing Club believes the youngster’s release clause stands at €16 million, but there is some confusion about this, as the Santander club, which has already secured promotion to La Liga, is set to remain in the second division till 1st July, and his release clause could be lower till that time.

Meanwhile, Barcelona can also get his price further lowered by sending some players from the youth academy, either on loan or with a  transfer with purchase option, to the other side.

Jorge Salinas, who played 30 games in the second division last season, providing 7 assists, has the ideal profile to thrive at Barcelona, especially with his strong left foot, good height, attacking ability, and room for further growth. For now, it remains to be seen whether he would become a Blaugrana player this summer.
