Earlier today, word broke out on Spanish media that Real Madrid have identified Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck as their priority defensive signing for the summer.
Having eyed many top profiles and potential free agent targets over the past few months, Los Blancos thus arrived at Barcelona’s rumoured target in the end and positioned him to be their top target.
As relayed by SPORT in a recent report, however, Barcelona are unperturbed by the development and are willing to lose Schlotterbeck to Real Madrid as Deco and Co. have seemingly altered their plan anyhow.
As confirmed by the Spanish outlet, Barcelona are indifferent to the news between Real Madrid and Schlotterbeck and do not even see themselves to be competing for the German defender anymore.
“Let [Real] Madrid stick with Schlotterbeck if they want him,” is the message heard behind the scenes in Catalonia, making the club’s stance clear.

It is true that the Borussia Dortmund star was offered to Barcelona and that Hansi Flick’s side did hold reasonable interest in him. However, the fact also remains that the Catalans do not see him to be the player Barcelona currently need despite him being a fabulous player.
Schlotterbeck’s entourage, in fact, have known Barcelona’s stance for a while now and that the Blaugrana will not launch any offer for their client irrespective of Real Madrid’s involvement. Deco, after all, sees Alessandro Bastoni to be a far better fit for the club.
The Catalans prioritise recovery speed and comfort on the ball and thus see superior options to Schlotterbeck. His move to Barcelona, at this point, is close to ruled out.
