According to a recent report from The Touchline, it has come to light that Barcelona have already made contact with Marcus Rashford’s agent to discuss the player’s future.

This is because the club views him as a potential high-profile addition, but only under the right financial conditions.

There is a growing belief inside the club that Rashford could be a “luxury reinforcement” but only if he agrees to reduce his current salary.

Barcelona’s financial reality still forces them to be careful, and any major signing must fit within their wage structure.

In any way, a final decision on the forward is expected at the end of the season once the club have a clearer picture of their budget.

Uncertain future

Meanwhile, developments in England have added more uncertainty to the situation.

Recent reports suggest that Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has informed Rashford that he would like him to return once his loan spell ends.

However, the player does not appear keen on that idea, and the England international has no intention of returning to Old Trafford.

Barcelona could therefore consider a permanent move, either by paying the €30 million purchase clause or by negotiating a lower transfer fee.

One of the most important details is the player’s position. Rashford is said to be open to lowering his salary demands to make a transfer to Barcelona possible.

This willingness could be key, especially given the club’s strict financial limits.

So what now?

Even if Barcelona ultimately decide not to keep him, the forward still does not view a return to Manchester United as an attractive option.

Reports in the English media claim that Rashford has grown fond of life in Spain and has told Barcelona that he would like to stay at the Spotify Camp Nou.

If the option of staying in Barcelona does not materialise, he would prefer to join another club rather than return to United. The main reason behind this stance is his lack of belief in the club’s sporting project.

Given the form he is in this season, Barcelona are leaning towards retaining the forward, but any decision will take maximum caution and will be made towards the end of the season.
