Barcelona’s sporting management has made it clear that acquiring a left winger is a primary goal this summer.

While the likes of Nico Williams and Luis Diaz are high on their wishlist, due to the need to comply with financial fair play regulations, the team is looking into cost-friendly options.

And Barcelona’s interest in Hull City winger Jaden Philogene stems from their awareness of their financial limitations as they are prompted to seek more affordable talent in the market.

Hull City owner admits Barcelona are interested

Indeed, Hull City owner Acun Ilicali, a Turkish businessman, confirmed to ‘talkSPORT’ (h/t Mundo Deportivo) that Barcelona are hot on the heels of Philogene.

Acun Ilicali confirms the transfer rumours, stating that while his goal is to build a stronger club and not sell his stars, he will not block a player’s career if they want to leave.

“Yes, it’s all true. But I told my fans that I would not sell anyone. My idea in football is not to make money, my idea is to make a stronger and bigger club. But sometimes to make a bigger club if a player says ‘I want to leave’, it’s a different case,” he said.

“A player change is not the end of the world. But I would not like to slow down careers or make moves for my players because of a contract.

“So, in that case, if Jaden wants to move and says he wants to go somewhere, this is something we can’t do too much about,” Acun Ilicali added.

Philogene has piqued the interest of many teams

Philogene had a stellar season in 32 Championship appearances for Hull City, tallying 12 goals and dishing out 6 assists.

A number of Premier League teams, notably West Ham and Everton, have expressed interest in him as a result of his promising exploits in the Championship.

As such, Barcelona will have to overcome some competition to acquire his signature but it is estimated that he will cost €20 million to transfer, which is a reasonable sum.
