Barcelona’s interim president, Rafa Yuste, served as the master of ceremonies during the customary lunch between the directors of the two teams ahead of the Newcastle United clash.

This promises to be an exciting matchup for the Catalans, who need to secure a victory in order to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Speaking at the lunch event, which was hosted at the Via Veneto restaurant, Yuste admitted it would be a dream to see Barcelona lift the title with him as president.

“It would be a dream to lift the Champions League trophy as president,” Yuste said at the event (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

“It’s a dream you always have, but above all for the fans and the team. I already experienced it as vice-president in Rome and Paris, and it’s one of the most beautiful things a Barça fan can do. Imagine what it would be like as president,” he added.

Yuste is currently serving as Barcelona’s president until June 30, after which Joan Laporta, having won the election by a landslide, will once again assume his role as the president.

“I hope and wish I can do it with my friend Joan Laporta, the club’s president-elect. That would be the greatest thing that could ever happen to me,” he said.

Speaking of Laporta, Yuste congratulated the Spaniard for securing a comfortable win against Victor Font, his closest challenger, who wasn’t even able to get one-third of the vote.

“The players, Hansi, and the staff have a great affection for the president, and yesterday I saw that this affection is natural and genuine. We all rallied together to play a great match and secure qualification for the members,” he said.

“I am very optimistic and happy to have Deco with us; I am convinced that he will do what he has to do,” he added, when asked about Flick’s contract extension.

Finally, the Barcelona interim president talked about the opponent tonight, Newcastle United – a side that has the quality to upset Barcelona.

“It’s a difficult match, we’re playing for a place in the quarterfinals, and we have to give it our all,” he concluded.
