Barcelona enter the new season in an enviable position from a managerial standpoint.

Hansi Flick recently signed a contract extension until 2028, and with five national titles from six competed for across two seasons, the German coach has firmly established himself as one of the best managers in world football.

Barcelona, in short, look well set from a managerial perspective for the foreseeable future.

But Flick is not going to stay forever, and the club are well aware that planning for the future is never a bad idea. One name that is quietly registering on their radar is Cesc Fabregas.

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the progress of the former midfielder, who has embarked on one of the most impressive managerial journeys in European football at Como 1907.

In just three seasons, Fabregas has taken the club from Serie B to Champions League qualification, a historic achievement for the modest Italian side.

His philosophy of attacking, fluid football has been a revelation in Serie A, earning him the best coach of the year award in Italy and attracting admiring glances from Europe’s biggest clubs.

The timing could be perfect

What makes the situation particularly interesting is the timing. Fabregas is contracted to Como until 2028, the same year Flick’s deal with Barcelona expires.

Should both contracts run their course, a natural transition could present itself at precisely the right moment.

Fabregas has already held talks with Joan Laporta in the past and his deep connection to the club, having come through La Masia before his move to Arsenal, makes the idea a culturally compelling one.

Fabregas has been recently linked with a move to Real Madrid, too, but he has no immediate plans to leave Como.
