Barcelona leave Pedri and Gavi out of squad for final preseason friendly | OneFootball

FC Barcelona are set to play their last friendly of this summer today, on Sunday, and for this purpose, the team has already travelled to the Swiss city of Basel, where they will be facing FC Basel at St. Jakob-Park. With La Liga 2026-27 set to start for the Blaugrana club only next week, this last friendly would be an important opportunity for Hansi Flick to test his team.

Barcelona have announced the squad for this game, and as SPORT has noted, among the several absences in this list, two names particularly stand out, i.e., Pedri and Gavi. Both of these players have not been called up for this friendly.

The Catalan club is not really worried about the condition of these two players, but Flick did not want to take any risks with them. Pedri has been carrying out a specific preparation plan since his return to the club from his holidays, following his participation in the World Cup. However, he has been seen training normally with his teammates in some of club’s social media posts.

Meanwhile, Gavi has not been called up because he is following a specific load management plan. He returned to the club six days before his holidays were set to end to be available for Flick, but was not called up for the triangular tournament in Udine, and now has also not been called up for the trip to Switzerland.

Other players who are not a part of this squad are Marc Casado, Hector Fort, Jofre Torrents, Guille Fernandez, Toni Fernandez, Tommy Marques, and Aaron Yaakobishvili, as their futures at Barcelona are yet to be decided. Meanwhile, the midfielder Frenkie de Jong and the forward Roony Bardghji are out with injuries and are not available for this match, as they are set to remain on the sidelines for several months to come.
