Barcelona left behind by Bayern Munich in pursuit of €30m defender | OneFootball

It has become a trend of sorts at FC Barcelona to always be on the lookout for good market opportunities. Given their financial issues and the consequent restrictions, however, it hardly comes as a surprise. Yet, even then, Barcelona have their own unique difficulties to address.

For the upcoming summer transfer window, La Blaugrana already have some targets in mind to reinforce the team. While the biggest of stars typically cost a lot of money to sign, there are some market opportunities that the Catalan club can simply not ignore even if they do not inherently need a player in said position.

At the moment, 28-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is seen as such a market opportunity. Since quite some time, Barcelona have been linked to him given that he is expected to become a free agent in the summer and that would be just the kind of signing La Blaugrana would love to secure.

However, according to Fichajes, things will not be that easy for the Catalan club. In fact, Bundesliga side Bayern Munich are reportedly in a much better position to land the German defender as compared to Barcelona in the summer of 2025.

The reasons behind this are the fact that joining Bayern would allow Tah to sign for a club that is already extremely dominant in Germany and it would also allow the player to stay in a setting and environment in which he is comfortable. Ideally, he would prefer to stay in the Bundesliga and joining Bayern gives him that luxury.

However, despite Bayern’s upper hand, Barcelona will not be giving up this easily on the €30 million-rated Bundesliga defender. A physically dominant player who is regarded highly for his defensive understanding of the game, La Blaugrana believe that he could be a great acquisition if they somehow manage to land him.
