Barcelona could soon welcome back one of the greatest midfielders in the club’s history, but this time in a very different role. 

After bringing an end to an illustrious playing career, Sergio Busquets is now preparing for life on the touchline and has already begun discussions with the club over his coaching future.

The former Barcelona captain has remained closely connected to the Blaugrana since leaving Camp Nou, and his latest visit to the club’s training ground has sparked excitement about a potential return. 

Rather than making a ceremonial appearance, Busquets is reportedly laying the foundations for the next chapter of his football journey.

According to SPORT, the World Cup-winning midfielder wants to begin his coaching education within Barcelona’s academy structure, taking his first steps alongside Barça Atlètic.

The outlet mentions that Busquets visited the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Tuesday, a trip that initially appeared to be nothing more than a courtesy visit.

However, it appears that the Barcelona legend has already held discussions with the club about becoming part of Juliano Belletti’s coaching staff at Barça Atlètic ahead of the new Segunda RFEF season.

Rather than immediately pursuing a head coaching position, Busquets wants to learn the profession from within. 

He plans to immerse himself in the day-to-day responsibilities of a coaching staff, gaining practical experience before eventually taking charge of a team himself.

Although he does not yet possess the coaching qualifications required to become a head coach, the former midfielder is eager to begin his education in an environment he knows better than anyone.

The idea of Busquets beginning his coaching career at Barcelona has been warmly received inside the club.

Few figures understand Barcelona’s footballing philosophy better than the former captain, whose intelligence, positional awareness and leadership made him one of the defining midfielders of his generation. 

His vast experience at both club and international level is viewed as a major asset for the next generation of players coming through La Masia.

Furthermore, working alongside Belletti is also considered an ideal starting point. 

For Busquets, the role would provide an opportunity to observe, learn and gradually develop his own coaching identity without the immediate pressures that come with leading a first team.
