Barcelona legend Lionel Messi equals all-time football assist record | OneFootball

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi continued to etch his name ever further into the history books of world football in the early hours of Monday.

This came by way of his latest performance in the colours of Inter Miami.

Javier Mascherano’s troops were back in action earlier today, locking horns with Cincinnati in an MLS Eastern Conference semi-final clash.

And en route to Inter booking their spot in the Eastern showpiece, Messi proved himself the star of the show.

After opening the scoring at TQL Stadium, the Argentine went on to lay on the assists for all three of his club’s ensuing goals, in a 4-0 romp.

And in the process, Messi’s legend only continued to grow.

As per Diario Sport, amongst others, the World Cup winner has joined Hungarian hero Ferenc Puskás as the player with the most assists in the history of professional football.

Both now have 404 to their names, with Messi requiring just one more to take the record all for his own.
