Barcelona legend Messi sends message to retiring teammate Jordi Alba | OneFootball

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has taken to social media, to provide his response to the news of a fellow Blaugrana hero’s impending retirement.

It of course proved another emotion-filled day in Catalunya’s capital on Tuesday.

As much came after word was forthcoming that another of the most successful players in Barcelona’s storied history had made the call to hang up his boots.

The player in question? Jordi Alba.

Just days on from Inter Miami teammate Sergio Busquets announcing his plans to pull the curtain on his playing days upon the close of the MLS season, left-back Alba did likewise.

News of as much has since been met by a wave of messages of thanks, congratulations and good luck from across the world of football.

And as alluded to above, adding his name to this list of well wishers late on Tuesday was none other than Lionel Messi.

Also plying his trade alongside Alba in Florida at present, Messi took to the comments section of the defender’s Instagram post, to write:

‘“Thank you, Jordi. I’ll miss you a lot. After everything we’ve experienced together, it’ll feel strange to look to the left side and not see you there… Crazy how many assists you’ve given me over all these years!”
