Las Palmas star Sergi Cardona has today spoken out over his future with the club.
As much comes amid long-standing speculation in the media, pointing towards an impending exit from Gran Canaria for the defender.
Cardona’s current terms with Las Palmas are due to expire this coming summer.
President Miguel Ángel Ramírez, meanwhile, has not been shy in publicly admitting that those behind the scenes at the club are braced to bid farewell to their star full-back, unable to compete with the wages on offer at rival La Liga clubs keen on Cardona’s services.
Speaking to the press on Thursday afternoon, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his future was put to none other than Cardona himself.
And, somewhat surprisingly, the 24-year-old in his response went on to suggest that he has not yet received a renewal offer on the part of Las Palmas:
“I have not rejected any renewal offer,” Cardona began, as cited by Mundo Deportivo. “When it is time to talk we will sit down and see what is best for me, for the club, and we will make a decision.”
From here, attentions quickly turned towards Los Amarillos’ upcoming return to action.
Fresh off the final international break of the campaign, García Pimienta’s troops will make the trip to Catalunya on Saturday, for a daunting showdown with in-form Barcelona.
Coincidentally, the Blaugrana are one club understood to be keeping a close eye on Cardona’s situation at the Estadio Gran Canaria, with the Catalan native looking forward to a ‘special’ outing for he and his teammates:
“[It is a] special match for everyone, one of those that you have always wanted to play when you were little, against one of the best teams in the world and in a very nice scenario where we can get the victory to turn around this bad streak that we have had.”
Finally, drawn on the talents of Lamine Yamal, whom Cardona will likely go face-to-face with at the weekend, the defender recognised that the Barca prodigy is in a ‘spectacular moment’ of form.
