After bursting onto the scene with FC Barcelona in spectacular fashion, Spanish forward Ansu Fati saw his promising rise slowed by a series of unfortunate injuries. Last season, he featured for only 298 minutes across 11 appearances, underlining the limited role he had under Hansi Flick.
However, things have taken a remarkable turn for the 22-year-old this season. Now on loan at AS Monaco, Fati has found a new lease of life and is quickly regaining his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
He has already scored six goals in all competitions, five of which have come in Ligue 1 and one in the UEFA Champions League.
According to MARCA, Fati has even made history in France by becoming the fastest player ever to reach five goals in Ligue 1. He achieved this milestone in only 126 minutes, surpassing Johan Audel’s record from 1948, when the French striker reached the same tally in 137 minutes. Emmanuel Rivière’s 174-minute mark has also been eclipsed.
Fati, who renewed his contract with FC Barcelona until 2028 before heading to Monaco, currently leads the Ligue 1 scoring charts, tied on five goals with Strasbourg striker Joaquín Panichelli. This resurgence is a testament to his perseverance and talent after years of battling injuries.
Having made his Barcelona debut in 2019 at just 16 years, 9 months, and 25 days, Ansu Fati was once regarded as one of the brightest prospects in world football. Now approaching his 23rd birthday on October 31, he appears to be rediscovering that same spark in Monaco.
If he continues performing at this level and remains injury-free, there is every reason to believe that Ansu Fati can once again fulfill the immense promise that once made him Barcelona’s next great star.
