Just when it appeared Ansu Fati’s long journey with Barcelona was finally reaching its conclusion, the situation has unexpectedly taken another twist.
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona loanee has not yet given his final approval for AS Monaco to activate the €11 million purchase option despite weeks of optimism surrounding a permanent transfer.
The reason is that the player still believes he can succeed at Barcelona.
As per the outlet, the academy graduate sees himself as a genuine option for the left wing next season and feels he could provide an immediate solution without forcing the club into major financial investment.
For now, Monaco remain very satisfied with the attacker’s performances and were expected to finalise the permanent signing after his strong end to the Ligue 1 campaign.
As it turns out, the financial agreement itself is not the main obstacle anymore, as everything depends on Ansu’s final decision.

The 23-year-old forward remains under contract with Barcelona until 2028 and continues feeling emotionally connected to the club despite the difficult years he has endured.
After injuries repeatedly interrupted his development, many believed his loan spell in France would mark the beginning of a permanent separation from Barcelona.
However, Ansu’s recent performances at Monaco appear to have reignited both his confidence and ambition.
The forward finished the Ligue 1 season strongly with 12 goals and now sees himself as a “zero-cost” solution for Barcelona’s left wing problem, especially at a time when the club is actually searching for affordable attacking reinforcements.
Despite delaying the operation, the report stresses that Ansu remains happy at Monaco and fully appreciates the confidence shown in him there. The issue is not dissatisfaction in France.

Rather, the player feels he still has “a score to settle” with Barcelona, the club where he once carried the expectations of becoming the next great attacking star from La Masia.
Interestingly, Barcelona themselves have reportedly not yet communicated a decision regarding his role next season.
As far as Barcelona are concerned, the club still want to strengthen the left wing, but financial limitations are forcing them to explore creative solutions rather than expensive operations.
For example, Marcus Rashford remains admired, but his €30 million purchase option is currently viewed as too expensive by Barcelona.
The club would prefer negotiating another loan instead of committing to a permanent deal immediately.
For that matter, several other options are being considered and right now, Ansu Fati appears convinced his Barcelona story is not finished yet.
