According to Jijantes, Barcelona have decided to move up their plans to announce Lamine Yamal as their new number 10.
Originally, the club wanted to reveal the news on the young star’s 18th birthday, which is on Sunday, July 13.
But now, the announcement is expected to take place on Tuesday, July 2, one day before Barça officially unveil their new kit for the upcoming season.
Barcelona had planned a special event to mark Yamal’s 18th birthday, coinciding with the day his new long-term contract becomes official.
This new deal will tie him to the club until 2031, going beyond the three-year limit set for underage players. However, things sped up after Yamal himself hinted at the switch on social media.
On Saturday night, he posted a photo of Diego Maradona wearing Barça’s iconic number 10 shirt, followed by an image of himself celebrating a goal in his current number 19 shirt with the caption, “My number, my story,” which many saw as a farewell to his old number.
To remove any doubts, Yamal’s father confirmed on Instagram: “You don’t just deserve the number 10. You deserve so much more.”

With Ansu Fati heading to AS Monaco on loan, the famous number 10 shirt will become available, clearing the way for Yamal to inherit it.
According to Jijantes, Barcelona plan to announce the number change on Tuesday, July 2, so they can start selling the new shirts the following day, Wednesday, July 3.
By timing the announcement this way, Barça will make sure fans can immediately buy shirts with “Yamal 10” printed on the back as soon as the new kits hit the club’s official stores.
The club expects massive demand for Yamal’s number 10 shirt. Fans are excited to see a new star take over the iconic number once worn by legends like Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho.
Barcelona’s management is already anticipating a sales boom as supporters rush to buy the new shirts and celebrate Yamal’s new role in the team.
By the time the player turns 18 and his new contract officially begins, his shirts will already be flying off the shelves, giving Barça a welcome boost both on and off the pitch.
