The board at La Liga giants Barcelona have made the call to attempt to make the signing of João Cancelo permanent in the summer.
Defender Cancelo of course made the move back to Catalunya’s capital during the winter window, on a short-term loan from Saudi outfit Al-Hilal.
After a somewhat hit-and-miss start back in Barca colours, the Portuguese has since played a prominent role in Hansi Flick’s XI over recent weeks.
Owing to injuries picked up by both Alejandro Balde and Jules Koundé, Cancelo has proven himself a crucial asset, filling in on both flanks.
Along the way, the former Manchester City man has earned widespread praise, too, particularly for his efforts going forward.
In turn, the latest word stemming from the Spotify Camp Nou regarding Cancelo’s future should come as little surprise.
As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Understand Barcelona have already informed João Cancelo’s agent Jorge Mendes about desire to keep the fullback. Cancelo would also love to stay as he’s a Barça fan and happy at the club.’
