Raphinha has been one of Barcelona’s standout players at the start of the 2026-27 season, with a remarkable eight goals and three assists in six appearances. Playing as a central striker, the 29-year-old has quickly made the club forget about their failed pursuit of Julian Alvarez, and he is due to be rewarded for his spectacular form.
Raphinha has been one of the world’s best attackers over the last 2-3 seasons, and that fact will not change, despite him being overlooked for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. Barcelona are absolutely delighted with him, and it’s why initial moves have been made to tie him down a new contract, as reported by Sport.
On Tuesday, talks were held between Raphinha and sporting director Deco, while special advisor Alejandro Echeverria was also in attendance. Barcelona’s officials made it known that there is a strong willingness to tie down the Brazilian to a longer contract, although there is no immediate plans for an agreement to be reached, given his current deal runs until 2028.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Arsenal had reignited their interest in Raphinha, whose situation they have been following for several years. They want to bring the former Leeds United man back to the Premier League, and with less than 24 months left on his contract, they have been sensing a possible market opportunity for 2027.
However, there is little chance that Arsenal sign Raphinha, as he is totally committed to staying at Barcelona. There is no doubt that a new contract will be agreed, with the only question being when it happened – rather than if. All parties are very happy to extend their relationship, so there is no real concern that he could end up being prised away anytime soon.
