In a short time at FC Barcelona, manager Hansi Flick has already given first-team opportunities to several young talents, one of whom happens to be Gerard Martin.

Signed from UE Cornella in 2023, the left-back was a part of the Barça Atletic setup last season and was a regular under former manager Rafa Marquez.

With Flick taking over the reins, the 22-year-old was called up to do pre-season with the senior team this summer and he has not looked back since.

New contract incoming

In fact, now Jijantes FC is reporting that Barcelona are already working on renewing Gerard Martin’s contract with the club.

After impressing in pre-season, the Spanish left-back has featured in three of Barcelona’s four La Liga matches this season, even starting the game against Rayo Vallecano last month.

While his full debut with the first team did not go as expected, it is clear that Flick and Barcelona rate him.

The report states that both the club and the manager are happy with Martin’s attitude and as such, his renewal is already being worked upon.

After all, Martin is one of three Barcelona first-team stars whose contract expires in 2025 at which point he could leave on free – something that the club are looking to avoid.

The report states that Barcelona see Martin as a good alternative for Alejandro Balde at left-back and as such, have already met his agents to hold initial discussions over a new contract.

“I’m very happy for the win. I hope to continue as a starter,” said Martin, after his full debut against Rayo Vallecano.

“I didn’t know I was going to start at first, so I got really excited and happy when they told me,” he added.

Considering that the 22-year-old is also happy to make his first-team breakthrough at Barça, it would be safe to assume that renewal talks are likely to go smoothly.
