Although injuries and physical setbacks have heavily impacted FC Barcelona since the beginning of the 2025–26 season, the situation is gradually improving for Hansi Flick. At present, only two players remain sidelined with long-term injuries, Andreas Christensen and Gavi, with the latter now edging closer to a long-awaited return.
Gavi has been unavailable since late September after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right medial meniscus. The procedure involved suturing the affected area in order to preserve the meniscus, and at the time, Barcelona announced an estimated recovery period of four to five months. That timeline is now nearing completion, with the midfielder showing clear signs of progress in recent days.
On Wednesday, according to Mundo Deportivo, Gavi took an important step forward by training on the pitch at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper alongside Pedri, who is also recovering from injury.
The 21-year-old Barcelona midfielder shared an image of the session on social media, offering visible proof that he is approaching the final stages of his rehabilitation and regaining fitness.
As per the report from MD, Flick and his coaching staff expect Gavi to rejoin full group training very soon. This will be the final hurdle before receiving medical clearance. While there is no fixed return date, internal expectations point towards an all clear being granted before the end of February, with the five-month recovery mark being completed on February 23.
Barcelona are taking a cautious approach, and there is no intention to rush the young midfielder back into competitive action. Once available, Gavi will be eased in gradually to avoid any setbacks. Even so, his return is viewed internally as a major boost for the team, with the Spaniard expected to bring intensity, leadership, and energy during a decisive phase of the season.
For Flick, having Gavi back could feel like welcoming a top-level new signing at the perfect moment as Barcelona push through the final stretch of domestic and European competitions.
