Gavi’s injury towards the end of last month came out of the blue for Barcelona and left the club in a tricky spot, especially given that his setback was in the same knee that was operated on for an ACL tear.

There was initially fear that he would have to undergo arthroscopic surgery and cleansing to aid the healing, but the club opted against surgery and pushed for him to undergo conservative treatment.

Needless to say, the hope was that the injury was nothing serious and just a setback that could be managed with rest, recuperation and constant reassessment.

The latest status

As relayed by Jijantes FC in a recent report, Gavi feels a slight improvement in recent days in his knee, giving the club’s medical staff a positive sign over the progression of his setback.

The 21-year-old’s feelings can only indicate that his injury is healing as expected, if not better than what was anticipated, and that the club can continue down the conservative path of management.

As relayed earlier today, Hansi Flick and Co. are in no hurry to push Gavi for a return. However, there is hope and a sense of optimism that he can return in time for the team’s games after the October international break at least.

The midfielder’s entourage met with the club officials today to assess the situation and discuss the next steps. The idea is for him to continue conservative treatment for another week at which point his condition will be reassessed again.

Should it not progress as expected, however, the surgical option will be forced on the player, something he will hope to avoid until the last minute.
