For the longest time, it appeared Barcelona were going to be rewarded for Oscar Mingueza’s breakthrough at Celta Vigo.

Although Mingueza wasn’t able to make an impact at Barcelona, the club managed to retain 50% of his transfer rights when they sold him to Celta Vigo, valid till the duration of his contract with the new club.

It didn’t take long for Mingueza to make an impact at Celta, and for a time, it appeared the Barcelona were going to earn a solid chunk of revenue as big clubs circled around the defender.

No revenue for Barcelona amid Juventus move

Four years later, Mingueza is finally on the verge of leaving Celta Vigo, with Juventus all set to acquire the services of the right-back, reports Fabrizio Romano (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

However, the move won’t be value accretive for Barcelona at all, as Juventus have cleverly managed to convince Mingueza to join the club at the end of the season.

To Barça’s detriment, Mingueza’s contract at Celta Vigo expires at the end of the season, meaning Barcelona, too, will lose 50% transfer rights of the player.

This effectively allows Juventus to acquire the services of Mingueza for free, as they are not obliged to pay anything to Celta Vigo or Barcelona.

If Mingueza were to join Juventus in the ongoing January transfer window, Barcelona would have been entitled to 50% of the transfer value.

The additional revenue could have gone a long way in helping Barcelona financially, especially with the club acquiring Joao Cancelo.

But everything suggests the Spaniard will join the Old Lady on a Bosman move in the summer.
