Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Levante was not just about reclaiming control in La Liga.
It was also the night Joao Cancelo reminded everyone exactly why he was brought back to the club.
The Portuguese full-back played a decisive role in the victory at home. Operating on the left side despite being naturally right-footed, Cancelo was constantly pushing forward, stretching the defence and creating danger.
He was involved in Marc Bernal’s opening goal and later provided the assist for Frenkie de Jong to double the lead.
His energy and attacking intent did not go unnoticed, as he was named MVP of the match.
After the game, Cancelo spoke openly about his performance and the feeling of finally delivering since returning to Barcelona on loan this winter.
Reflecting on whether it was his best display since coming back, he admitted, “My best game since coming back? Yes, for sure.
“It’s about taking advantage of the opportunity. I was training very well, and I felt that the coach was going to play me.

“When you train well, things just flow well on the pitch,” he noted.
His confidence was clear throughout the match. Time and again, he made forward runs, delivered crosses and supported the attack like a winger.
Discussing his natural instinct to join the offensive phase, he said, “I’m an attacking full-back,” but he quickly shifted focus away from himself and towards the team’s response after recent setbacks.
Barcelona had suffered two disappointing defeats before this game, and the pressure was building. Cancelo acknowledged that context.
“The important thing is the victory. Football always gives you a second chance, and after two bad games, we played very well against a team with very good players, despite their position in the table, and we deserved the win.
“In La Liga, it’s hard to win every game,” he said.
As such, Barcelona needed leaders to step up against Levante, and Joao Cancelo answered that call.
