Robert Lewandowski has had a curious season at Barcelona so far. The veteran forward’s early-season progress was hampered by injuries, allowing Ferran Torres to take charge.

But now that he is back to full fitness, Lewandowski has shown what he is capable of and has started Barcelona’s last five matches across competitions.

The Pole has also scored eight goals this season. At the same time, though, Lewandowski’s performances in the last three matches haven’t been great.

This could put Ferran back into focus heading into Barcelona’s final few matches of the year.

Barcelona do not rule out Lewandowski staying

Nonetheless, a recent report from MARCA has indicated that Barcelona have not completely ruled out Lewandowski’s prolonged stay at the club.

After four seasons at Barcelona, the Pole’s contract will expire at the end of the season. But the forward is reportedly open to a salary cut and a reduced role just to continue at Camp Nou for another season.

Keeping that in mind, Barcelona have not ruled out Lewandowski staying another year, especially considering the Pole’s performances since returning to full fitness.

Barcelona sporting director Deco, for his part, has put the matter on hold for now but has admitted in a recent interaction that Lewandowski’s future is still open and nothing has been decided yet.

“If Robert could go back in time… he’s a fantastic player. Last year, he scored the most goals, and this year, even while injured, he’s one of the top scorers. But it’s not the time to talk about this; everything is still open,” he said.

The coming weeks, therefore, could prove to be significant as Lewandowski looks to end the year on a strong note and recover his goalscoring mojo, and become the focal point of the attack alongside the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
