Barcelona now demanding €40m to sell first team player | OneFootball

Going into the summer, it was taken for granted that Barcelona would part ways with midfielder Marc Casado. The La Masia graduate was not part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the 2026-27 season, and while it was hoped that he would depart prior to the end of June, the fact he has stayed means his situation has changed drastically.

Barcelona were actively seeking to sell Casado earlier in the summer, especially as his departure would mean pure profit for the Catalans due to him being a homegrown player. Their asking price had been as low as €20m, but after reviewing the market, the club’s sporting department has decided that they were significantly undervaluing him.

As per MD, Barcelona are now asking for €40m to sell Casado this summer, and there is a feeling that they will be able to receive an offer in that region over the coming weeks. They have already rejected a proposal that did not reach their demands, with the plan being to take a hard-line approach with the midfielder.

De Jong injury means Casado is more important to Barcelona

Going into the summer, Casado was behind Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi and Marc Bernal in the defensive midfield pecking order, which is why Barcelona were comfortable selling him. But for the next few months at least, he has leapfrogged de Jong after he suffered a serious knee injury that will keep him sidelined for the foreseeable future, which also means that he is much more valuable to the Catalan club than he was previously.

Nevertheless, there are still many chances for Casado to leave this summer, as long as clubs match Barcelona’s valuation. Saudi Pro League sides are among those interested in signing the 22-year-old, which is why it would be no problem if a deal ended up being done for €40m before the transfer window closes.
