It is no secret that Barcelona are working hard to bring in new talent, and one player they have their eyes on is Federico Chiesa.

In fact, according to a recent report from SPORT, Barcelona plan to propose €9 million as a fixed fee, with an additional €4 million in add-ons for the Italian winger. However, the transfer is not straightforward, and several factors need to be aligned for it to happen.

For Chiesa to make the move to Barcelona, he would need to agree to a reduction in his salary. Currently, he earns around €5 million per year, but Barcelona want him to take a cut of €1 million, bringing his salary down to €4 million.

This reduction is necessary for the club to stay within the rules of ‘financial fair play’. Chiesa would have to make this sacrifice to wear the Barça shirt, which shows how tight Barcelona’s financial situation is right now.

There are other factors too

In addition to pursuing Chiesa, Barcelona are also planning for extensive player exits and the money from these transfers would help them fund the Chiesa deal.

It must be noted that Barcelona showed interest in other players like Nico Williams from Athletic Club and Rafael Leao from AC Milan. However, these transfers are considered too expensive for the team, given their current financial situation.

The club’s budget is stretched, and they are already struggling to register new players due to their wage bill.

With the transfer window open and the season already underway, Barcelona need to act quickly. Coach Hansi Flick sees Chiesa as the most viable option for the team, given their financial limitations.

The Italian winger could add significant value to Barcelona’s attack, but the deal hinges on several key factors, including Chiesa’s willingness to lower his salary and the successful sale of some of the fringe players.
