Barcelona have been hedging their bets in the event that they fail to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid. They have been following several alternatives, with one of those being Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane, who has emerged as a possible market opportunity for the back-to-back La Liga champions.

Kane’s contract at Bayern expires next summer, which has left the door open for clubs to make a move. Barcelona are one that has considered the 32-year-old, to the point where it’s been reported that they will go “all-out” to bring him to the Spotify Camp Nou.

However, Kane’s representatives have informed Barcelona that he is happy at Bayern, and thus, an exit is not being considered on his end. And because the Bundesliga giants have made it abundantly clear that they will not entertain offers this summer, the Catalan club have decided to end their interest, as reported by Marca.

Kane was seen as a very interesting option by Barcelona officials, but given Bayern’s stance, they made it clear that a deal would only be possible if the player himself took a stand and asked to leave. Given that he will not do so, they have decided that a move this summer is not worth it, and thus, their interest has come to an end.

Barcelona confident that Alvarez will be signed instead

Another of the reasons for Barcelona’s decision to stop following Kane is that Alvarez is still their leading target. The Argentine did make a stand against Atleti last week when he publicly expressed his desire to leave this summer, and on the back of this, there has been increased confidence from Catalonia that an agreement will eventually be reached.

It remains to be seen how things end up playing out in Barcelona’s striker search, but one guaranteed outcome is that Kane will not be joining.
