FC Barcelona secured their presence in the Copa del Rey final after beating Atletico Madrid last night. The Blaugranes emerged victorious with a 0-1 scoreline last night and thus made their way to the final after a 4-4 draw in the first leg.
With this win, the Catalans have got another step closer to winning the Copa del Rey, as they now have only one hurdle remaining to add another cup title to their trophy cabinet.
However, last night’s win gains even more significance as it keeps Barcelona in contention for a treble. In addition to qualifying for the Copa final, the Blaugrana club is also three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table and is set to play the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.
While the Catalan side is one of the best-performing sides in Europe, SPORT notes that it is still not the only side that is still in contention for a treble at this late stage of the 2024-25 season.
In addition to Barcelona, another team in Spain, Real Madrid, is also still contending for all the three big trophies this season. They are set to face the Blaugranes in the Copa del Rey final, are three points behind them in La Liga, and will be facing Arsenal in the UCL quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, in France, Paris Saint Germain are also alive in all three competitions. They can wrap up the league title this week, with six rounds to spare. Similarly, they also secured a place in the final of the cup final after beating Dunkerque 4-2 on Tuesday. In the UCL, they are set to face Aston Villa in the quarter-final.
Lastly, Inter Milan are also vying for all the big trophies. They are currently leading the Serie A table, leading the second-placed Napoli with 3 points. In the cup, they are set to face AC Milan in the second leg of the semi-final, after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw. They are facing Bayern Munich in the UCL and can face Barcelona if both the teams make their way to the semi-finals.
Only one of these teams can win the treble, and the Blaugranes have their fate particularly intertwined with their heated rivals, Real Madrid, which makes the final phase of this season even more entertaining and exciting.
