Barcelona pay tribute to Sergio Busquets after retirement announcement | OneFootball

Earlier today, former Barcelona captain and club legend, Sergio Busquets, announced that he will be retiring at the end of the ongoing Major League Soccer campaign.

Playing for Inter Miami, with Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez, the iconic midfielder confirmed that he will hang up his boots once the current season in the USA comes to an end.

In an emotional video announcing his decision, Busquets did not forget to mention Barcelona – ‘the club of his life’ – where he spent 15 years of his professional career before leaving in 2023.

Barcelona pay homage

Following his retirement announcement, FC Barcelona have taken to social media to pay homage to one of their most successful midfielders of all time.

Posting a heartfelt message for the legendary Spaniard, alongside an image of their former captain, the Blaugrana wrote:

“The club of your life. A legend of our club. Thank you for your football, Sergio!”

Busquets made his first-team breakthrough for Barcelona in 2008, under Pep Guardiola, and went on to make history at the club.

Busquets was not only a cornerstone of the midfield at Barcelona for over a decade, but also wore the captain’s armband, establishing himself as a true leader on and off the pitch, and an example and role model for everyone.

One of the greatest ever to have done it, Busquets will always be loved and cherished at Barcelona and by the millions of Cules across the globe.
