Barcelona plan final striker push as Julian Alvarez move looks unlikely

There is no doubt that FC Barcelona have had a very good summer transfer window. The Blaugranes have been able to land most of their desired players, including the likes of Joao Cancelo, Anthony Gordon, and Karim Adeyemi, and also took the opportunity to sign a world class midfielder, Rodri Hernandez.

Meanwhile, they have also been able to find new clubs for players who were not a part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the next season, including Marc-Andre ter Stegen. They also lost an important player in Ferran Torres, but got a good €50 million for him.

However, they have still not been able to succeed in their highest-priority transfer operation of the summer, i.e., the signing of Julian Alvarez for the center-forward position. As things stand, the Catalans are still fighting for his signing, but with only a few days left in the transfer market, they understand they might have to bet on one of the alternatives to get Flick a new center-forward.

In this regard, a report from SPORT claims that the Catalans are looking to finalize a move in a week’s time, and would try to get a striker that generates consensus within the Blaugrana club. However, if they are unable to land anyone this summer, they can try to eliminate this shortcoming in the next winter transfer window.

Barcelona have been trying to get Julian Alvarez since last February, once it was clear that Robert Lewandowski would not continue. Initially, they were assured that the player would join and that Atletico Madrid would negotiate for his transfer, but this has not turned out to be the actual case.

As things stand, it seems quite impossible that he will join this summer. Meanwhile, Barcelona are also confident that they have enough options to cover for the center-forward position if no new signing is made, and they would not even have tried to sign an alternative if Ferran Torres had not left. But for now, Deco will try to get a new striker for Flick before the transfer window ends.
