Barcelona are planning to offer a new contract to Robert Lewandowski to extend his stay for at least another season.

The La Liga giants are open to the idea of renewing his terms, but only if he accepts reduced wages.

Lewandowski faces an uncertain future in Catalonia, with his contract expiring in June.

But ESPN reports that manager Hansi Flick is pleased with the player’s attitude and performances, and the club are considering keeping him for another year.

Lewandowski came to Barcelona in 2022 for a fee worth around £42.5 million.

He has justified his enormous price tag, scoring 113 goals and providing 23 assists in 174 appearances in all competitions.

The Poland international has now turned 37, but he still remains an important member of the first-team.

The experienced centre-forward has made 11 direct goal contributions in 17 La Liga matches this season.

But he remains one of the highest paid players at Barcelona, and the club want to reduce his salary to free up space for more signings this summer.

The Blaugrana want to add a striker who can compete with Ferran Torres.

They have identified Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez as an ideal target, but they have also been linked with Dusan Vlahovic, whose contract with Juventus expires in June.

Barcelona are in a good position to defend their La Liga crown, as they sit a point clear at the top of the table

They suffered a shocking 2-1 loss at Real Sociedad last month, but bounced back to claim successive wins over Oviedo and Elche.
