According to a recent report from Fichajes, Barcelona are planning their marquee signing for the summer of 2026, and their top target is Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, for whom they are willing to go well overboard.

After securing Marcus Rashford this window, the club is unlikely to make any other major moves this summer, except for possibly adding a full-back. Even that, however, remains uncertain.

Right now, Barça are focused on balancing their books and achieving La Liga’s 1:1 rule, which will allow them to spend freely in future transfer windows.

The idea is to build financial muscle for a blockbuster signing next summer, and the name at the top of the list is Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez and Yamal – Barcelona’s dream duo

Joan Laporta and the club’s sporting directors see Alvarez, who scored 29 goals and provided eight assists last season, as a perfect partner for Lamine Yamal in attack.

The plan is to build a young, exciting, and goal-scoring front line for the future. Alvarez has already proven himself at both Manchester City and with the Argentina national team, showcasing his versatility and finishing skills.

Now at Atletico Madrid, he is seen as a player ready to lead an attack, and Barça want him to do exactly that at Camp Nou.

A blockbuster move

Barcelona are preparing to offer between €90 million and €100 million to try and tempt Atlético Madrid into selling.

However, it won’t be easy, as Diego Simeone sees Alvarez as the key to his team’s long-term project and is expected to fight to keep him.

Despite the challenge, Barcelona are banking on the club’s history, style of play, and the promise of a leading role to convince Alvarez to make the switch.

Moving to Barça would offer him a chance to become a central figure in one of the world’s biggest clubs. More importantly, Barcelona will get their heir to Robert Lewandowski, who is likely to leave in 2026.

The road to signing Alvarez will be complicated, but Laporta has already set this transfer as a top priority for 2026.
