With the summer transfer window not very far away, FC Barcelona are already planning to strengthen their squad with strategic signings in the summer.

As has been reported, there will not be many signings but a limited number of additions that will have the capability to elevate the overall level of the current squad.

Midfield and defence the main targets

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are prioritising midfield and defensive reinforcements over attacking signings for the 2025/26 campaign.

Indeed, as per sources close to the club’s sporting management, the Catalans’ updated transfer priorities for the upcoming window include the signing of a midfielder and a defender.

This comes as an interesting development, considering that previous reports suggested that Barça were not at all looking for reinforcements in midfield and would bank on their existing options.

As for the defensive unit, the primary target is understood to be a right-back, Barça have also not ruled out the possibility of bringing in a central defender, particularly if there are departures in that area of the squad.

No new striker, no Nico Williams

Moreover, the club have also taken a firm stance against signing a new striker. Although a replacement for Robert Lewandowski had previously been a key objective, sources have now confirmed that Barcelona no longer intends to bring in a No. 9.

The technical team believes Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo offer sufficient cover in the centre-forward role and act as backup for the veteran striker.

The 21-year-old Spain international was the club’s top transfer priority last summer and was again on the agenda this summer as the club sought a left-winger.

However, Barcelona now consider the window of opportunity to sign him closed. They believe that the current options on the left wing provide sufficient depth and quality.
