FC Barcelona are set to take on Rayo Vallecano in La Liga at Spotify Camp Nou, with kick-off fast approaching. Incidentally, the players gave fans something unexpected before a ball had even been kicked against Rayo Vallecano.

As they walked out to inspect the pitch at Spotify Camp Nou, the squad were not in standard warm-up gear. Instead, they appeared in a retro Ronaldinho shirt that immediately grabbed attention in the stands and sparked plenty of discussion.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the players followed their usual pre-match routine of checking the surface, but this time they did so wearing a vintage Blaugrana jersey linked to the Brazilian icon. The shirt was a long-sleeved retro design, complete with the classic patches from that era, along with Ronaldinho’s name and the number 10 on the back.

That detail matters because it was not just a random nostalgic gesture. The report says this was the first stage of a Barcelona promotion, with the club planning to market the shirt as a vintage model. It is expected to be sold through official Barca stores and online, both with Ronaldinho’s name and in a version without it.

From a Barcelona perspective, it is easy to see why the club chose Ronaldinho for something like this. Few players have put a smile on Camp Nou’s face quite like the Brazilian maverick did. Before Messi became the face of an era, Ronaldinho was the one who made supporters fall in love with the team again.

That is why the image has landed so well. It felt like a reminder of a player who still carries enormous emotional weight around the club, even years after his time at Camp Nou ended. Ronaldinho joined Barcelona in 2003, and some members of the current squad were not even born at that stage, including Gavi, Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi.

Hopefully, the spirit of Ronaldinho inspires the team today and helps them put on a show for the 60,000-odd spectators in attendance for the match against Rayo Vallecano. We will have to wait and see how things play out.
