FC Barcelona have officially postponed their long-awaited return to the revamped Spotify Camp Nou, originally scheduled for August 10, citing delays in obtaining the necessary first occupancy license from the Barcelona City Council.
The fixture was due to mark the reopening of the iconic stadium with the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy, but the club announced on Friday afternoon that ongoing construction compliance issues have made it "impossible to complete the necessary procedures" in time.
The delay stems from the magnitude of ongoing renovations at Camp Nou as part of the ambitious Espai Barça project, which includes extensive structural upgrades and modernisation. While the club had hoped to reopen the stadium in stages, it admitted that not all regulatory requirements could be fulfilled at this time.
“Despite the Club's desire to operate Spotify Camp Nou in sections, the complexity of the work has prevented full compliance with the ordinance regulating municipal intervention procedures for construction works,” read the official statement.
FC Barcelona added that it is working closely with city authorities to resolve outstanding issues and will inform fans and club members as soon as a new date for the stadium's reopening is confirmed.
In the meantime, the 2025 Joan Gamper Trophy will be relocated to the Johan Cruyff Stadium, with further details to be announced shortly.
The club also clarified that the postponement will not affect the payment schedule for the financing of the Espai Barça project, a key element of the club’s long-term infrastructure transformation.
This development marks another twist in the club’s return to its spiritual home, which has been closed for over a year due to renovation works.
