2025 was a special year for Barcelona in many ways, for it will go down as the time when Hansi Flick’s plans truly came to fruition.
The year began perfectly with a title at the Spanish Super Cup, then progressed well with the team winning both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
Even the new season, so far, has not seen the team do too badly. After an initially injury-riddled period, the Catalans ended 2025 as the leaders in La Liga and head into 2026 hungry for more success.
In a recent interview with SPORT, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was asked to make his wishes for 2026 and thereby reveal what he hoped from the team this season.
He began by praying for the team to be more successful and win more silverware, as is always the objective in sports.
“For the new year, I ask that during this season we continue to play well and win more titles so that the Cules around the world are happy.”

His second wish was a more personal one, primarily revolving around the upcoming presidential election in the first half of 2026. He will have to fight it out against at least three contenders to hold on to his post.
“I hope that the elections to the presidency of FC Barcelona will be a celebration of democracy with a great participation of Barça members.”
Finally, Laporta made a large-hearted wish for the greater good, not only of the players but the world as a whole.
“Peace and solidarity throughout the world and health for everyone.”
Barcelona will kick off 2026 in grand style this weekend against Espanyol in La Liga. The derby will be more heated than ever, especially given Joan Garcia’s transfer and recent results between the two sides – setting up a massive game.
