Barcelona president meets with super-agent Jorge Mendes | OneFootball

According to Mundo Deportivo, Jorge Mendes, agent to several members of the FC Barcelona squad, met with club president Joan Laporta in Catalonia as part of a routine meeting between the representative and the club’s leadership.

Mendes’ presence in Barcelona always attracts attention, given the number of high-profile Barça players he represents, but as per the report, the meeting was simply a regular point of contact following the conclusion of the summer transfer window.

No future moves discussed

Sources close to the club insist that the meeting was not intended to discuss potential moves in future transfer windows.

Barça had some late dealings this summer involving clients of Mendes.

They completed the permanent signing of Joao Cancelo a three-year contract, before Marc Casado left on loan for Deportivo de A Coruna until the end of the season.

One of Mendes’ other Barcelona clients currently attracting attention is Alejandro Balde. The left-back has seen his role reduced under Hansi Flick, and there have been reports of interest from Liverpool.

However, there are currently no planned movements involving Balde.

With several months still to go before the next transfer window opens, there was no reason for the club and agent to discuss hypothetical scenarios during this latest meeting. If the situation changes, there will be time to address it later.

Lamine Yamal remains Mendes’ biggest Barça client

Another important point of Mendes’ relationship with Barcelona is his representation of Lamine Yamal, who remains one of the leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Laporta, Hansi Flick, sporting director Deco and vice-president Rafael Yuste have all publicly backed the club’s young star.

It will not come as a surprise to see Mendes also throw his weight in the campaign to support Lamine for the top prize.

For now, however, the Mendes-Laporta meeting was simply a routine follow-up between the club and one of the most influential agents in football, rather than the beginning of any new transfer negotiations.
