Barcelona president publicly confirms the club’s desire to sign Julian Alvarez | OneFootball

The entire situation surrounding Julian Alvarez has become quite complicated for FC Barcelona to resolve this summer. Still, the Argentinian striker remains the club’s priority transfer target and they will reportedly not be pursuing alternatives just for the sake of signing a striker either.

However, some kind of move or statement was needed from Barça to make things happen considering just how tricky the situation had become. Perhaps that understanding is exactly what has prompted club president Joan Laporta to now speak about it publicly.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has now publicly expressed the club’s interest in signing the player and has confirmed their intent to do so as well:

“We are still very interested in Julián Alvarez. We would like our offer to be accepted, and we are doing so with the utmost respect for Atlético de Madrid.”

Furthermore, he put emphasis on the fact that the club continues to remain respectful of Atletico Madrid’s decisions and position, but that Barcelona is willing to sign the player if Alvarez’s current club is willing to negotiate or offload him:

“Let Atletico Madrid know that, if they are willing to sell Julian Alvarez during this summer transfer window, we would be ready to buy him. This provided we can reach an agreement around the offer we have made to them.”

Laporta also clarified his relationship with Atletico Madrid’s current leadership and confirmed that he has ratified the existence of Barça’s current offer for the player as well:

“We have a great deal of respect for Atletico Madrid and its directive. We have known each other for many years. I ratified the offer sent with a call to Miguel Angel Gil.”

Lastly, the Barcelona president confirmed that the information that they have received is that Atletico Madrid would be willing to sell the player and that the offer from the Catalan club remains valid until the end of the summer:

“We got the information that Atletico Madrid wants to sell the player. It’s clear that our offer remains valid until the end of the market.”

This seems to be the one last major move that Barça will be making this summer for Alvarez, and this push seems to come at the right time. The player himself missed his team’s recent training session, and this whole transfer saga will definitely be one to keep an eye on till the end of the transfer window.
