Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed the club remain hopeful of signing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez this summer.
Laporta made it clear Barca would be prepared to complete a deal if Atletico are willing to sell the Argentina international and an agreement can be reached over their offer.
Atletico have so far been unwilling to engage with Barcelona, insisting there is no chance that he leaves for their Spanish rivals.
“Let them know that if they are willing to sell the player during this summer transfer window, we would be ready to buy him, provided we can reach an agreement regarding the offer we have made them,” Laporta said in an interview with Barcelona’s media.
The Barcelona president reiterated the club’s desire to sign Alvarez and insisted their approach has been made with respect for Atletico.
“We remain very interested in Julian Alvarez,” he added.
“We would like them to accept our offer and we are doing so with the utmost respect for Atletico Madrid. We would like to reach an agreement.”
Arsenal also remain keen on Alvarez but the Argentine prefers a move to Barcelona, though with Atletico still unwilling to sell to their rivals, it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old could open the door to a north London move.
