FC Barcelona celebrated their first trophy of the Hansi Flick on Sunday night as they won the Spanish Super Cup by hammering arch-rivals Real Madrid 5-2 in Jeddah.

Following a period filled with negativity due to poor results towards the end of the year as well as the registration saga involving Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, it was a much-needed outcome for the Blaugrana.

The joy and relief could be seen in the way the players celebrated the trophy last night, with club president Joan Laporta, under immense pressure recently, also joining in the festivities.

Having returned to Catalonia earlier today, Barça president Laporta has taken to social media to send a message to the fans after the team’s Spanish Super Cup triumph.

Posting the images from the trophy celebrations last night in Jeddah, the Blaugrana chief wrote:

“Yesterday we enjoyed a victory that is a reflection of the work, talent and commitment of the players, the coach and the technical staff. Long live Barça!”

Laporta had come under intense scrutiny after the entire registration episode involving Olmo and Victor dragged on for weeks.

However, the Barcelona president was successful in getting the pair registered via a precautionary measure obtained from the Higher Sports Council (CSD) just before the Spanish Super Cup final.

Following that up with success in the final, that too in an emphatic manner against Real Madrid no less, is bound to relieve some pressure off the club president’s shoulders.
