The race for the presidency of FC Barcelona continues to intensify, and pre-candidate Marc Ciria has now placed financial reform at the heart of his campaign.

Speaking during the presentation of his international plan, as relayed by SPORT, Ciria made it clear that his project is built around economic stability first, followed by sporting ambition.

Confident ahead of the March 15 vote, he revealed his intention to act immediately if elected.

“We will ask the members to hold an extraordinary meeting so that we can implement the financial restructuring plan and, by April, be governing the club and the statutes.

“The legal team has reviewed this, and the statutes allow it,” he began.

Ciria believes restructuring the club’s financial framework is the key to unlocking Barcelona’s transfer potential.

He then detailed how his proposed digital and financial reforms would directly impact the summer window and support head coach Hansi Flick.

“By implementing the digital solution and the financial restructuring solution, I will have €110 million in free cash to make available to the technical department in the summer.

“I will say to Mr. Flick, here is your financial ‘fair play’, let’s go for that player who can complete a generation of young players who will give us the next Champions League titles.

“Yes, in the summer we will have a financial profile and free cash,” he promised.

He also addressed the political atmosphere of the campaign, including a recent event organised by Joan Laporta.

“We’re not going to Mercabarna to compete. I’ll give him the mechanical bull. He’s the best at that. We’re going to present projects for Barça

“We have the advantage and we’re growing every day,”

The Lionel Messi poster

One of the most eye-catching moments of Ciria’s campaign has been the public display referencing Lionel Messi, with a banner reading “Ganes de tornar-te a veure.”

While he admitted he has not spoken directly with the Argentine star about a return, he did not shy away from expressing his view on the club’s past decision.

“The most serious mistake in Barça’s history was letting Leo Messi go.

Not only because of what he meant on the field and in terms of sports, but also because of what he meant in terms of commerce and global image.

“So much so that Messi has more fans around the world than Barça, and so much so that Messi, playing in a minor league, is still the player who sells the most jerseys in the world,” he commented.
