One of the operations that FC Barcelona wishes to resolve next is the renewal of Frenkie de Jong. The 28-year-old Dutch midfielder has even previously revealed that he wishes to renew his contract. However, certain agent-related issues hindered the progression of the negotiations.

Fortunately, those issues were recently resolved by the Dutchman. Now with a new agent, who also happens to be Dutch, the player and the Catalan giants are more hopeful about resolving his future and the intricacies of a potential renewal.

As of right now, according to Mundo Deportivo, the club met with the player’s new agent and both parties showed their willingness to renew the player’s contract. Barça, as per the report, currently intends to offer the player two more years in terms of an extension.

Moreover, there might be a potential option to extend the deal for another year based on performances as well. However, this last part needs to be sorted out a bit, and MD reports that it needs to be finalised.

De Jong’s renewal will also help the club with Financial Fair Play, just as Jules Kounde’s renewal did as well. However, MD makes it clear that Barça’s renewal offer will depend a lot on De Jong’s financial demands, and whether or not they align with the club’s vision and what is sustainable for Barça.

No urgency at the club for now

Only under the right conditions would the club renew the player’s contract, but things look to be on the right track for now. However, there is no urgency to resolve De Jong’s contract issue just yet, and departures and other operations will be sorted out first.
